Back from vacation with a presentation of (the application for) The Apmel World Project

ROUND THREE Deadline: August 15, 2012



Project Summary

Apmel has a long story in SL as told on the blog ”Min avatar heter Apmel”. It has been mostly known to swedish speaking avatars. It is time to tell the world! :)

During the six month period of a possible land grant at LEA the blog about Apmel (and his relatives and friends) will be in english and follow the development of the project and its visitors as well as having background material about the characters. One will be able to read it also in world. The idea is to bridge the virtual Apmel World and the virtual world of the visitors minds.

Project Description

I will have buildings from Apmel´s most active period in SL placed on the sim (such as his pathway of cartoons leading up to his first virtual book store) and let the five avatars in the Apmel family live there and showing people around. There will be cinemas and a remake of Gallerie Villa Apmel and Apmel's Tango Bar and also an expanded version of Apmel´s Café (a hangout for imaginative minds in virtual bodies) in the middle of a park filled with animations for making out (”hångelpark” in swedish) but also a mesh version of my cartoon character filled with artificial wisdom in the middle of a big lake.

Apmel and his alts will be able to be called in world from bells placed around the sim if they happen to be logged out. They will interact with the visitors as much as possible. Their story goes on and will be recorded in different ways. My primatar (played in world by uncle Ibbetson) will be open to discussions about his forthcoming book about the rendering of a virtual world in our heads (our consciousness) as it is being written.

Project Timeline

The basic setup should be relatively quick (maybe a month or two). After that visitors will be welcome. Their participation will be crucial for the success of the project. I will also invite some special friends, art buffs and musicians to take part and make sure things don´t get too slow. The Apmel Tango Bar will always be open for people that like to dance and will probably also be the place for a final party.



Your Résumé/CV

My primatar Lennart Nilsson earned a Master of Arts in the Faculty of Social Science at Stockholm University in his youth. He has since then at times been a cartoonist, a writer/translator/publisher of foundational science. He is on a lifelong quest for a philosophical worldview that encompasses his love for science with his love for music/film/art and the beauty (and ugliness) of the rendering of the imaginative mind. He started a Second Life in 2007. He also started the Longest-Running swedish blog about SL where he introduced Apmel Goosson (swedish enfant terrible and jury member in the UWA challenges) but also his uncle Apmel Ibbetson (the closest kin to my primatar ) , younger cousin Apmel Meerson, little sister Apmelina Slingshot and finally Apmelsprivatabankman (his Private Banker and Investment Counselor and a sexy woman in her fifties). As of late Apmel has also started experimenting with mesh on Cloud Apmel in Cloud Party.
