MachinimUWA V: Seek Wisdom (5th UWA Short Animated Film Festival) Entries.

Film by David Moss/M4SK 22 Melody, with Kanjena Sweetleaf. Music and soundtrack by M4SK 22.

The quest for wisdom is a circular process, knowledge is passed down the generational line, the practitioner applies the gathered knowledge to their pursuit, wisdom is the attainment of the process, the becoming of being. As this wisdom is entwined with the subject, the knowledge is passed on and the process can begin again. Strands of experience are spun together creating the yarn, this action of enjoining is the oscillation that we experience as time.

This film is a visual poem, concerned with the mythology of wisdom, the colloquial wisdom of those that spin time, and the symbolic language of process. There are many blatant and subtle references to wisdom myths from different cultures, the Hellenic archetype Athena is roused, while the Scandinavian Norn spin the fabric of reality, the fates enjoin this dance to a maddening centrifugal soundtrack which was composed especially for this project.

Filmed at the UWA campus in Second Life, featuring the sunken garden and pool of reflection as the locations of this entwining of space and time, of myth and familial wisdom.

Additional locations include the fantastic Innsmouth sim by Darmin Darkes and Baileymarie Princess and the exterior of the Velvet nightclub.

Sometimes you have to travel far to understand the kindness of home where no one is an alien.

Didn't you always want to fly away in your Radio Flyer wagon? Joey did. When he found a young alien robot hiding in his backyard, they went together on a space journey to find the lost robot's family. They did, and along the way also picked up courage, hope, kindness, and the meaning of home.

Which path do you take to seek wisdom? The first video in an interactive video exploration of wisdom by Lori Landay, made for "Seek Wisdom," the 2012 Machinima festival sponsored by the University of Western Australia.

The paths to wisdom intersect and circle back; it is the exploration, the journey that is most important, and this interactive video piece uses YouTube annotations to offer you choices about which path to explore next. Form and interface reflect and shape he paths to wisdom.

Written, filmed in Second Life, narrated, and edited by Lori Landay. Music by Moby. Featuring selected art at LEA (Linden Endowment for the Arts) regions and Treasures of University of Western Australia in Second Life. Full credits at the end of the last video, "Conclusions?"
