Richard Dawkins införde begreppet memer för "replikerande informationsmönster som använder hjärnor för att sprida kopior av sig själva". Det är en idé som kändes som början på en ny samhällsvetenskap när den kom. Men analyser av hur en kulturell evolution uppkommer till följd av memernas spridning i samhället har lagt tonvikten fel. Kulturell evolution är visserligen oerhört mycket snabbare än biologisk. Men den överlägset snabbaste evolutionen är den som sker i hjärnan när den selekterar vilken av alla memer som ska få chansen att visa sig i ett beteende som andra hjärnor kan kopiera.

Hi,

This week Congress is debating whether to grant themselves the power to turn off parts of the Internet. Fun sites you YouTube.
Informative sites like Wikipedia. Political sites like MoveOn.org.

If enacted, new laws would force Internet Service Providers to block websites that any corporation suspects violates a copyright or suspects doesn't monitor it's users' content close enough for copyrighted materials. That means that any website, foreign or based in the U.S., could be wiped out on suspicion and made unavailable to everyone in the world.

This week there will be a historic filibuster of the Internet Censorship Act where the names of every person that signs a petition against Internet censorship will be read. I added my name. Please add yours too.

Pushing machinimas

Det händer mycket för alla som håller på och pular med machinimaproduktion. Apmel blev inbjuden till intervju på Indie Radio eftersom han skickat in ett bidrag till MachinimUWA IV: Art of the Artists



Nu tycker jag det är roligare att producera machinimas än att prata om dem och alla som känner för det har en lite annorlunda utmaning här:

Would you like to participate in our 24 hour MachiniMarathon? It will happen from December 3rd, 3pm (Indian time) to December 4th, 3pm (Indian time).

The idea is to produce a Machinima film in just one day. Some teams will be at the Bitfilm Festival venue in Bangalore, India, but the competition is open to Machinima filmmakers worldwide.

You may prepare the story from now on, but shooting may start only on December 3rd. To make sure that no ready films will be submitted, at the kick-off we will tell you some things that have to appear in the film.

The films will be screened at the last day of the Bitfilm Festival.

Reklam för bloggen

Att hitta reklam för bloggen är ganska enkelt. det är bara att googla på bloggnamnet och se om något av värde dyker upp.

Längst ner på första sidans träffar hittade jag en länk till en cachad sida på Bloggnytt där någon gjort en sökning på vad min blogg kunde vara värd :)

Nu går det inte alltid att upprepa så fina siffror, varken när det gäller sökträffar på Google eller bloggvärdet. Men bra reklam är det! På tal om reklam hittade jag en repost av ett av mina inlägg i en blogg med namnet Reklamen.

Kludden släpptes lös inatt till slut

Ibland får min primatar för sig att det finns viktigare saker än att låta avatarerna roa sig, men till slut sent igår kväll blev frestelsen för stor och han loggade in Kludden för att runda av kvällen. Det bar först av till den uppskjutna öppningsfesten på Nordan Art.

One of the hardest avis to get some useful gossip from is my dear friend Kandinsky even though we are neighbours in SL and live in the same city IRL. Now she has as well as I noticed that it's been quiet lately on the Rose/SaveMe marriagefront. Being the official builder of the LoveBed to be a part of the event Kandi started getting worried and let Apmel in on her worries.

The following gossip was in swedish and is translated for the world to know by yours truly.

Kandinsky Beaumont: I´m chasing animations for SaveMe and Rose´s bed.. they both want me to finish building it.
Apmel: good.. do you know about when they are getting married?
Kandinsky Beaumont: talked to Rose the other day.. and no, she just said it takes time to build, so no hurry it seems...
Apmel: no okay.. if you need any help to test the animations for the LoveBed.. just call me :)
Kandinsky Beaumont: but then she said that because of the rumours that SaveMe secretly is seeing Igor again they might have a divorce instead hehe.. then we joked a bit about happy divorces and the likes..
Apmel: can you drop me a picture of the bed to post on my scandal blog?
Kandinsky Beaumont: No you may not!

Tonight I was really dissapointed.. I had my most vunerable avatar, Apmel "Kludden" Meerson, visiting an installation of the 2LEI initiative that I have been writing up for two years now. This was supposed to be about women being abused but there was this constant male voice wispering: help me!

Imorgon den 25 november är det FN-dagen för att eliminera våld mot kvinnor

Precis som förra året uppmärksammar 2Lei detta i Second Life. I år omfattar programmet flera dagar och utmynnar den 25:e med en manifestation.

2Lei wants to break even this year the silence of women. That underreporting, that secret kept in terror, hiding behind an outstretched hand. From a silent virtual environment will be a cry of hundreds of voices. For 4 days events to raise awareness against violence against women will be held in Second Life.

The last day, November 25th, International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, all participants in the initiative will gather to shout out to the real world its indignation.

De virtuella minnenas overkliga verklighet

När Apmel satt och tittade på ApmelTV fick han oväntat nästan nostalgislag av en filmsnutt där Milli tar honom på en vansinnesbiltur uppe i bergen intill Turin i SL.

Det är nåt speciellt med filmade, fotade eller bara bloggade virtuella händelser kring den egna avataren. När man ser sig själv i ett fotoalbum eller på filmer från RL är det någon annans bild av en själv. De bilder man tar i SL är mer som man ser sig själv i en drömsekvens, innfrån även om det är en "utanpåbild".

Samtidigt måste snuttar från autentiska samtal mellan secondlajvare ibland förefalla helt drömlikt overkliga för eventuella läsare utan virtuella liv. Hur får de en sådan här konversation att gå ihop?

Flera svenskar droppade också in på hans 5 årsrezzdag igår och grattade både å egna och andras vägnar.
