Andra veckan av månadslånga mixed reality-eventet Art&Poetry har börjat. I eftermiddag, redan 17:00 svensk tid, startar dagens program på ILE de MOYA.

Burning Culture

Torsdagen var den stora pressdagen på årets Burn2 som öppnar officiellt nu på lördag. Utrustad med ett laminerat presskort och en välfylld Burn2Kit begav sig Apmel dit.

Bland det första han såg var Free Tutus av alla ting...

Området känns gigantiskt men här finns olika fortskaffningsmedel att tillgå.

Det smidigaste var varmluftballongen.

Den följde automatiskt en utstakad visningsrunda.

Problemet var bara att vissa parcels som den flög över inte hade tagit bort bannlines för pressen så Apmel blev ejected och hamnade på landningsplatsen igen.

Under tiden hittade han till Trill Zapateros Grail Quest som inte går att missa!

DMom2K Darwin: Four scripted avatars meet a fifth in the center of a balanced yet austere setting for a ritual "suggesting that it is the solemn responsibility of elders to pass on their knowledge, and the solemn responsibility of those younger to learn it and respect it," according to the artist. This fits into the Burn2 theme "Rites of Passage" in that Oberon feels that passing on knowledge from one generation to the next, whether thru ritual or not, "is less important than the mutual recognition of everyone in a community that it is required for the community to survive." If you feel a bit uncomfortable viewing this installation, that is by design. Oberon wants one to sense a bit of mystery for having observed what might otherwise be a private event.

DMom2K Darwin: Look carefully at the hourglass and think of the Burn2 theme, Rites of Passage. The faceless woman with the luggage at the start of the sand's journey through time leading to a broken receiver bulb on a never ending journey is an excellent metaphor.

Templet var slutstationen för guidningen. Apmel missade mycket pga av krånglande voice och att han ramlade av även bussen vid något tillfälle.

Burn2 öppnar 21:00 svensk tid på lördag och pågår hela nästa vecka tom helgen. Här finns mycket att upptäcka, mycket kommer säkert också att skrivas i olika bloggar och mycken info finns att få på plats.

Burn2 Background Information
BURN2 is an extension of the Burning Man festival and community into the world of Second Life. It is an officially sanctioned Burning Man regional event, and the only virtual world event out of more than 100 real world Regional groups, and the only Regional to burn the Man!

The BURN2 organization spreads Burning Culture and the Burning Man Ten Principles (http://burn2.org/ten-principles) year round in Second Life, culminating in an annual festival of community, art and fire in the fall - a virtual echo of Burning Man itself...so BURN2.

Burn2 2011 Theme
The 2011 theme for BURN2 in Second Life mirrors the 2011 Burning Man theme: Rites of Passage. There are moments of crisis and frisson in our lives which inform us that we've somehow crossed an inner threshold and are changed. Thus moving from one state of being into an unknown other obliges us to face our innermost insecurities, and it requires faith, a willingness to leap off the ladder of ordered existence. Our theme this year invites participants to join with others in creating rites of passage.

Engrama live i Noise Off Festival IRL

[engrama] har jag berömt ett antal gånger på den här bloggen. De är flitiga livemusiker i SL och har bl a gjort stor succé vid sina framträdanden på Frides. De som ännu inte upptäckt dom kan se den här liveupptagningen från igår på Noise Off Festival.

Kan man kalla osgriddare och annat löst virtuellt folk som kommer till Second Life för lajvare?

Kandiudden funkar hur som helst för många som en portal in till Second Life.

Igår tittade både Mera och Vespan förbi!

Men även dedicerade secondlajvare från alla håll, som kontinentala ush, kan här hitta en plats att samla krafter för nya lajväventyr.

Milli har lajvat mycket i första världen på senare tid men tar sikte på den andra till helgen har hon viskat till Apmel :)

Igår följde Apmelina sitt eget tips och gjorde ett besök på Studio K Club.

Ok.. dom hade lite problem att få igång sin stream men inte gick det att förutse detta!

Studio K Club is a completely equipped nightclub with a big dancefloor, a reception and an office in mezzanine.
The club proposes also two stages giving the one onto the beach and the other one onto the park.
The beach and the park can be privatized during the musical use of stages.
It is situated on a private full island class 5 dedicated to the arts. It is completely non-residential and the lag is voluntarily maintained there at the lowest.
If you look for a place of this type for your private, public events or company, all or part of the Studio K can be proposed to you for free with approximately 1000 prims.
We propose you a logistic support for the communication in the group Studio K, on the inspiritum web site and for flyers.
We can propose you DJ, hosts as well as suppliers of stream but all this will stay at your expense.

The rent of the place as well as the supports of communication are totally free and the duration is not limited but depends on availability.

Att vara den man inte är - ny chans ikväll 21:00

Att vara den man inte är är en vanlig sysselsättning i SL, bland curatorer, konstnärer, artister men också hos skådisar. Varje onsdag har man chansen att vara det senare. Ikväll på europavänlig tid.

The Actors Sandbox workshop is for voice actors and machinima actors allows participants a chance to show off their skills and work with the creators of new media projects in production. We hold the event weekly on Wednesday with the time rotating so that we can serve actors and producers from a broad range of time zones.

So look for us on Wednesday, 9/28 at 12pm SLT.

As always we'll be at Running Lady Studios Soundstage 1.

Mellan sommarminnen och höstplaner

I Stockholmsområdet, där min primatar bor, är det fortfarande sommarkänsla denna vecka, åtminstone på dagarna.

Jardin d´Milli på Solace Island är också fortfarande lika somrigt som när bilderna togs.

Ännu händer det att Apmel sitter ett slag på solstolarna framför Gallerie Villa Apmel.

Men det går inte komma ifrån att kvällarna på Place des Petits Bourgeois börjar bli kylslagna.

Kandi håller igång brasan och och har börjat förvandlingen från sommartorg till hösttorg.

Märkliga figurer har flyttat in.

Apmel ryser lite. Än det dock inget istäcke i vattenhinken.

Innan man vet ordet av är det november och då händer det stora saker här.

26 Sep: Paralanguage and Second Life

I bloggen apres.me hittade min primatar ett inlägg om en forskarstudie som samtidigt är ett lotteri med hyfsad vinstchans (1 chans på ca 200 att vinna 8000 Linden). Studien görs av Az Afterthought aka Aaron Parker IRL, doktorand i psykologi.

Evening folks, I’ve just launched a sur­vey look­ing at how peo­ple use par­alan­guage in Sec­ond Life. Par­alan­guage refers to all those infor­mal ele­ments you use when you chat, such as emoti­cons, abbre­vi­a­tions, /me, etc. It’s going towards a study I’m doing for my PhD so I’d be infi­nitely grate­ful if you’d give it a shot. There’s also a L$8000 draw for every­one who com­pletes it.

Apmelina tipsar om StudioK ikväll från 22:00

Nu när kvällarna börjar bli svala längtar Apmelina till heta nätter.

Once we are able to download our minds from our brains into computers then physical protection of them will become much less important compared with protection of them from bad ideas which would use creativity to destroy all the backups!

UWA 3D Open Art Challenge för näst sista gången - röstning pågår tom sista september.

Mycket har sagts om Jayjay Zifanwes enorma satsning för att popularisera virtuell konst. Mest har det handlat om hyllningar: "One of the most important and good people I have met in Second Life" skrev Miso Susanowa i en kommentar till en intervju med Jayjay i somras på Nazz Lanes blogg.

Efter så många månader, med massor av deltagande konstnärer, börjar UWA 3D Open Art Challenge närma sig avslut. Men först har vi alla chansen att rösta på september månads bidrag och/eller skicka in ett tävlingsbidrag för oktober och därmed ta chansen att dela på The Grand Finale Prize Pool med ett första pris på (minst) 100000 Lindendollar!

Det första som möter Apmel vid landningsplatsen denna gång är Pixels Sideways enorma Avatar Blender. "Ta med hela familjen/vänner/ovänner!" vill han utbrista.

Artistides mesh-konstverk The Twelve Dwarves kommer däremot inte riktigt till sin rätt här. Gå och se hennes konst på den pågående Nordan Art-utställningen istället (efter att ni röstat).

Ett verk som tilltalar Apmel, inte minst ljudmässigt, är Sledge Roffos Primscape Dream V4.

En av de "vackraste" immersiva upplevelserna denna månad är You can't touch heaven av Paleillusion.

Miso är alltid intressant och återkommer med QRt-Building Codes (1) här till QR koder som hon skrev om nyligen på sin blogg.

Nish Mip har Apmel en extra förkärlek till sedan Robotlinas machinima med utgångspunkt i ett av hennes tidigare vinnande konstverk. The Crossing verkar vare en fortsättning på temat.

Särskilt förtjust blev han i den lilla röda knappen på utsidan längst upp på konstverket:)

Den som är intresserad av rymdgenren kan också testa RazorZ Space Elevator MK7.

Den dånade hiskeligt men Apmel fick den aldrig att lyfta från våning ett.

Däremot klarade Apmel att gå ner i Paris's metro, ett dubbelverk av Asterion Coen.

Soda Lemondrops The Prison Of Self inbjöd till filosofiska tankar trots, eller tack vare, sin i sammanhanget otypiska icke-interaktiva passivitet.

Jayjay är däremot aldrig passiv.

Till slut, för de som undrade över den första bilden i detta inlägg, så kommer den från månadens, till storleken, största verk. En hyllning av Secret Rage i två delar till sex personer med anknytning till hela UWA projektet i SL. Namnen står i de små ovalerna över portarna.

Här fanns förstås det mest självklara namnet av dem alla. Men är det konst?
