Från kistdekorering till utformning av sista måltiden på Gallery Xue

Mitt i högsommaren, den 15 juli, skrev jag om projektet Decorate Your Coffin! av Xue Faith.

Jag frågade henne vad som hände med detta (trodde att det runnit ut i sanden eftersom hon inte skrivit ett ord mer om det i sin blogg) och fick detta svar:

Hi Apmel! Yes, the blog is tardy, but the exhibition has been up the whole time. We’ve actually installed the collaborative sculpture Cairn at Gallery Xue / Avalon, and placed all the wonderful coffins at our 3 city galleries: Taipei, London, and Amsterdam.

I hope you have a chance to visit before our next exhibition of group works “Last Meal” where we invite artists and other observers of culture to imagine their last meal.

Farbror Ib (som ställt ut sin enkla kista i Gallerie Villa Apmel) skickades genast att kolla kistorna. Först till galleriet i Amsterdam i närheten av centralstationen.

Det räckte med en snabbtitt. Fort vidare till galleriet i London City i trakterna av Soho och Regent's Park.

Här fick han snabbt sällskap av två vänner vars intresse för kistor handlade om att hålla sig i dom respektive utanför dom.

Farbror Ib skyndade vidare till galleriet i Taipei på HI SQUARE vid en Shopping Mall.

Här fanns en kista med inbyggt chokladdropp!

Detta för osökt över till Xue Faiths nästa projekt som hon inbjuder till på detta sätt:

China, America, Iran, Israel, and Ecuador are some of the places that do it.

Decapitation, electrocution, hanging, shooting, and stoning are some of the ways they do it.

How ever, where ever, and when ever states choose to implement the final punishment on a citizen, they have most often granted the condemned a Last Meal.

For Gallery Xue’s next group exhibition we invite artists and other culture observers to conceive and serve a last meal. Elaborate. Simple. Rich. Spartan. Whatever you discover in trying to imagine your final corporeal experience on earth.

Compose and serve whatever meal you see fit and bring it to Gallery Xue / Avalon on Saturday 1 October 2011.
