In Greg Egan's novel "Permutation City" there's a Rupert Murdoch like character who has died, but lives on in a simulated environment in a super computer and continues to run his media empire. Lesser folks also live on in computer simulations, but they generally cannot afford the computer time to run continuously and instead only run when relatives visit.
