SLSC SOS Campaign FAQ:
Frequently Asked Questions

What is the SLSC SOS Campaign? – The SLSC SOS Campaign (a.k.a. SL Shakespeare Company "Save Our Sims" Campaign) is an attempt at raising funds to save 3 of the 4 sims of the SL Shakespeare Company and SL Globe Theatre. Donations are accepted through SOS donation kiosks; you can get a selection at the Campaign Headquarters.

What about the fourth sim? – Artistic Director Ina Centaur will be covering the costs of that one.

Why do you need four sims? – We put thousands of hours into the preparation of each show, in attempt to bring RL professionalism to create quality theatrical performances on SL; because real actors have to be scheduled for each show, and because scheduling is often very difficult, we strive to accommodate as many audience members as possible per show. The only way we can do this is with a four sim setup. In addition, the sims host a significant bit of high quality art and culture content on SL. Please see the main Campaign page at http://campaign.SLshakespeare.com for a brief summary.

What are the black kiosks? – The kiosks are donation devices. We've adopted black as our current campaign color since it's a chic color that fits with any décor! (Well, also, it is symbolic in that we have reached our darkest hour, and this may be our end...)

How do I use the kiosk? – To donate, simply right click to open the pie-menu and select "Pay". You can left click the kiosk to receive an InfoPack. To rez, simply pull it out of your inventory and put it where you want (be sure to say yes to "accept payment").

That kiosk wants to take money from me! Help! – When you rez a kiosk, you become the owner of the kiosk, and any funds paid through the kiosk go through your account first. The kiosk automatically transfers each donation directly to the accountant avatar "Shakespeare Timeless," and it requires that you allow access to payment information. If you are not comfortable with this, please IM Campaign staff Fauve Aeon, Ruth Svoboda, or Olympia Fizzle—one of them should be online to drop by and rez the kiosk for you.

What happens if you don't meet the campaign goal? – The campaign goal is L$1.51 million. If we come close but don't meet the goal, Artistic Director Ina Centaur will put in the difference. In the unlikely event that we do not come close to our goal, we will either refund everyone the recorded sum of their donation or set up a public foundation in SL to disburse the funds to others who may be interested in creating similar live events on SL (but, please, don't wish for that!).

What if I want to modify the kiosk to fit my décor? – There is a full-perms 1-prim kiosk prim you can use and modify to your heart's desire. You can also display changing pictures on a kiosk you design by taking a copy of the script in the changing pictures prim on the beacon kiosks; the images are controlled by the script.

How do you prevent fraud or counterfeiting from donors? – Each official donation to an SLSC SOS kiosk shows up immediately on http://campaign.SLshakespeare.com We encourage you to check this website after making a donation to check that the funding has gone to the right recipient (avatar: Shakespeare Timeless).

How do I report counterfeiting? – Preventing or stopping the counterfeiting of a donation or even a donation kiosk is something we will need your help on; if you encounter such a case, we encourage you to report to us immediately (see Contact).

How do I know you are not a fraud? – We encourage you to come to your own decision after having spent some time to get to know the scope and depth of our endeavor. Please read the introductory text on http://campaign.SLshakespeare.com, which should give you a brief introduction to our endeavors; we also encourage you to visit our island sims – Primtings, Shakespeare, and sLiterary. Please make your decision after you have seen the difference of our endeavors.

Why not have your members each contribute a mandatory amount? – Not all actors are rich, and we don't want money to be a bar against the sharing of good talent on SL.

Why are you asking us for funds? – Because if most of you contribute just L$1, we would meet our campaign goal, by far. And also because—we are doing this for you.

Have you tried applying for grants? RL investors? – We have. But, we've failed multiple times. Currently, the national granting agencies in the USA are erring on the conservative side with regards to funding for Second Life endeavors. Investors are not interested in developing the literary and arts in a virtual world that gets its media attention for relationship drama and flying genitalia. But, we will continue trying, nevertheless!

This is the best thing I've seen on SL? How can you fail at getting grants? – As with many artistic endeavors, the solo artist driving the endeavor has to spend not-enough-time on both grantwriting and development of the project. Either that, or people outside of SL just don't believe in the quality arts on Second Life. (Still got ideas? We encourage you to help! See 16 below.)

May I apply for a grant on your behalf – Please! We have long been looking for someone who could dedicate their time to writing grants.

I have an idea that may help you – We encourage you to discuss this with us by email at production at SLShakespeare dot com. Please send us a short summary of your idea.

I'd like to contribute a charity performance – Great, thank you for your artistic support! Please email production at SLShakespeare dot com with time, date, and details of your event. We will add that to our Campaign calendar on our website http://campaign.SLshakespeare.com

I'd like to book an event at the SL Globe Theatre – Great, muchos thank you for your artistic support—and right at our homebase! Please email production at SLShakespeare dot com with time, date, and details of your event. We will add it to our venue calendar at sLiterary
(23,13,23)

I still have a question. Who should I contact? – The Campaign Committee is organized by resident supporters Fauve Aeon, Ruth Svoboda, and Olympia Fizzle. Artistic Director Ina Centaur holds an adjunct-chair. Lora Constantine is the PR contact. For best results, we encourage you to contact all of us by both IM and notecard.

How can I help? – 1) Donate! 2) Rez an official SOS donation kiosk for us! 3) If you've got an idea for an event or sale, please email us at production at SLshakespeare dot com
